A man. A wife. A marriage. A crisis. The heroes of the comedy “Open Couple,” Antonia (Toma Vaškevičiūtė) and her husband (Giedrius Savickas), find themselves in this fairly traditional situation. The situation is traditional, but the way they deal with it is truly original. Even shocking! We bet you wouldn’t have come up with it. But the minds of our comedy’s heroes have taken a strange turn. To save their marriage, they agree to become an “open couple”: to form intimate relationships with others without hiding them, and then talk about their adventures at home with absolutely no shame or remorse. Have any of you tried this way of keeping a relationship together? If so, we’d very much like to hear how it went, because… things did not go at all as our heroes imagined. The comedy “Open Couple” is based on the famous Italian play “Coppia aperta, quasi spalancata” (by Dario Fo, Franca Rame and Jacopo Fo). As soon as it began being staged in Italy, the play caused a huge stir because of its bold and uncensored content. The creators of the Lithuanian production “Open Couple” warn that the issues discussed and situations portrayed may shock more sensitive audience members and may also be difficult for those under 16 to understand.
