What if a literature lesson began with a jump on a trampoline? Created in response to Vincas Krėvė’s play “Šarūnas,” which is studied as part of the school curriculum, this performance brings Lithuanian literary classics together with contemporary circus, acrobatics and theatre. Director Gildas Aleksa invites audiences to view the work through the lens of a person’s inner world. The performance does not aim to retell the story of an angry duke; instead, it focuses on a person lost between different generations, their expectations and their own desires. They are accompanied by inner critics, a desire to get more out of life, and a search for their place in it. Movement, jumps, an acrobatic trampoline and theatre come together on stage. What lifts us up or pulls us down becomes a physically tangible experience here. For teachers, it is an opportunity to extend a literature lesson into the theatre, discover a new perspective on the work and encourage discussion among students. For teenagers and their parents, it is a chance to experience the performance together and talk about ambition, others’ expectations and the courage to find one’s own path.
Duration: 50 min. Recommended age: 12 and up. The performance is free for school groups and the person accompanying them. Advance registration is required—the registration form is available here: https://forms.gle/gwxkB6msuC8EdxM69. Tickets for other audience members cost €5. Ticket sales begin on November 3.
