A man. A wife. A marriage. A crisis. The heroes of the comedy “Open Couple”, Antonia (Toma Vaškevičiūtė) and her husband (Giedrius Savickas), find themselves in this rather traditional situation. The situation is traditional, but their solution is truly original. Even shocking! We bet you wouldn’t have thought of it. But the minds of our comedy’s heroes have taken a strange turn. “We’ll save our relationship only if we fundamentally change our cultural attitudes,” says the husband. “But that never happens. You know what does? A war of nerves, panic attacks, insomnia, a pile of pills, consultations with psychologists and, eventually, the madhouse,” Antonia initially says, sceptical of the idea. But in the end, HE convinces HER. To save their marriage, they both agree to become an “open couple”: to pursue intimate relationships with others without hiding them, and then tell each other about their adventures at home, entirely without shame or remorse. Perhaps one of you has tried this way of saving a relationship? If so, we’d very much like to hear how it went. It certainly didn’t go the way our heroes imagined… “This is a dance a couple has to dance together, and both partners must be ready for sudden turns. You can’t predict who will emerge the winner from such a relationship,” says the production’s director, Antanas Obcarskas. The comedy “Open Couple” keeps the audience intrigued until the very last seconds of the performance. And its spectacular finale comes as an even greater surprise to the audience. The comedy “Open Couple” is based on the famous Italian play “Coppia aperta, quasi spalancata” (by Dario Fo, Franca Rame and Jacopo Fo). As soon as it began being staged in Italy, the play caused a huge stir because of its bold and uncensored content. The creators of the Lithuanian production “Open Couple” warn that the issues discussed and situations portrayed may shock more sensitive viewers and may also be difficult for people under 16 to understand.
