Musical Show “Cabaret Between the Millstones”

“Cabaret Between the Millstones” is touring Lithuania: Vytautas Kernagis’s songs are reborn in a new musical show with Lina Rastokaitė and Jokūbas Bareikis

A new musical project, “Cabaret Between the Millstones,” will reach cities across Lithuania at the end of this year, bringing together music, theatre, humour and the legendary work of Vytautas Kernagis. Actors and singers Lina Rastokaitė and Jokūbas Bareikis, together with a group of professional musicians, invite audiences to a concert-performance lasting more than an hour and a half, in which familiar songs will take on a new sound.

Following a successful premiere at Palangos koncertų salė, the agency “Pepper Live,” which is presenting the musical show, has announced a major festive tour of Lithuania. From early December to the end of January, “Cabaret Between the Millstones” will visit fifteen cities across the country, inviting audiences to remember the legacy of one of Lithuania’s most prominent singer-songwriters.

The programme centres on legendary songs from the cabaret “Tarp girnų,” which have already become part of Lithuanian music history. Audiences will hear songs including “Mūsų dienos kaip šventės,” “Kolorado vabalai,” “Kansaras Nr. 2,” “Žemutinių pilių šventės,” “Santechnikas iš Ukmergės,” “Lietuvaitė,” “Armonika,” “Koja spaudžia gazą,” “Šimtas pavasarių,” “Kaip gražu miške,” and many others. The concert will also feature Vytautas Kernagis’s unreleased song “Paskutinė Pompėjos diena.”

The creators emphasise that this is not just a traditional concert. Scenery, costumes and lighting designed specifically for the project create a distinctive cabaret atmosphere, blending retro aesthetics with contemporary storytelling on stage. The show features humour, improvisation, conversations with the audience and unexpected theatrical moments, allowing viewers to become participants in the evening rather than mere spectators.

Lina Rastokaitė and Jokūbas Bareikis create a lively dialogue with the audience on stage, while the group of professional musicians gives familiar melodies new colours. Music, words and theatrical form come together in a unified story, where nostalgic memories meet a contemporary perspective.

“Cabaret Between the Millstones” promises to be one of the festive season’s most notable musical events. It is an evening of legendary songs, a lively sense of togetherness, humour and a warm emotion that stays with audiences long after the concert.
