Guest Performance – Podkarpackie Symphony Orchestra

On their return from a tour of the Baltic countries, guests from Poland will stop at the Kaunas Philharmonic: the Podkarpackie Artur Malawski Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, based in Rzeszów. It is one of the best symphony orchestras in Poland and began performing in 1955. The orchestra performs throughout Poland and in countries including Austria, Belgium, China, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Spain, Lithuania, Germany, Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary and Italy. The ensemble often appears in some of the most prestigious concert halls, such as the Musikverein in Vienna. Its repertoire includes symphonic works from the world’s musical canon and many works by Polish composers, including contemporary ones. Joining the ensemble at the Kaunas Philharmonic will be acclaimed Latvian pianist and composer Vestards Šimkus, who performs with the world’s leading orchestras. The identity of the other soloist will be revealed in October, after the 17th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition takes place in Poznań; its prize fund exceeds €110,000.
