An international quartet led by saxophonist and composer Donatas Petreikis will bring a powerful, swinging sound to Kaunas Philharmonic. The quartet’s debut album, “One Way,” has garnered nearly a million streams on Spotify, and now the group reunites to bring this music back to the stage and present its new programme, “Where I Belong.”
The quartet features prominent jazz musicians from Denmark and Estonia: pianist Carl Winther, one of Denmark’s best-known jazz pianists; drummer Anders Mogensen, who has collaborated with artists including Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Berg, Joel Frahm and Peter Bernstein; and bassist Heikko Remmel, one of the most active and sought-after bassists in Estonia and Europe.
The concert will feature D. Petreikis’s latest album, “Where I Belong,” a direct continuation of “One Way,” born of travel, experiences and constant movement. While the first album attracted widespread attention from listeners, the music in the new programme is more personal and profound. It weaves together a range of experiences, with the longing for home as its strongest theme—not only as a physical place, but also as a search for an inner state. This is music about returning to where you truly belong.
