In this concert, one of Lithuania’s most prominent cellists, Glebas Pyšniakas, and the country’s renowned organist, Dainius Sverdiolas, will create a rare musical drama, offering listeners an experience they have not heard before: a real pipe organ will sound on the stage of Kauno filharmonija. The programme features a cello solo, an organ solo, and a dialogue between the two instruments as three ways of telling a story: one monologue, another monologue and, finally, the symbiosis of both instruments. The stylistic axis shifts as well: an organic, meaningful tension unfolds between Johann Sebastian Bach and contemporary music, opening up the concert’s musical horizons. This is a musical journey in which Baroque polyphony, 20th- and 21st-century modernism, and contemporary sacred impulses reveal how musical tradition can develop and become a living, continuous process. Here, music unfolds over time, acquires new meanings and brings different interpretive aspects into focus. For listeners, this offers a rare opportunity to hear not only individual works, but also the dialogue between them, their structural connections and the composer’s path of thought. This concert broadens academic understanding of classical music masterpieces and their interplay, and promises the personal joy of discovery.
