On the evening of November 14, we invite you to Kaunas State Philharmonic for a special concert bringing together the history of jazz, contemporary interpretation, and one of Europe’s most outstanding jazz voices. “Trajectories of the Century” is a musical journey through time, dedicated to three figures whose names are inseparable from the golden age of jazz: Miles Davis, Mel Tormé, and Tony Bennett. Their music became a touchstone for generations of performers, and today it takes on a new sound in a live interpretation. The evening’s special guest is internationally acclaimed Swedish trumpeter, vocalist, and composer Peter Asplund. His subtle trumpet sound, elegant vocals, and exceptional musical sensitivity have made him one of Scandinavia’s most prominent jazz artists. During his career, he has performed with Herbie Hancock, Diana Krall, Randy Brecker, Joe Lovano, McCoy Tyner, Toots Thielemans, and other world-renowned jazz stars, and his work has repeatedly been recognised with Sweden’s prestigious jazz award, “Gyllene Skivan.” Kaunas Big Band will perform alongside him, marking the 35th anniversary of its activity this year. Over three and a half decades, the orchestra has become one of Lithuania’s most prominent jazz symbols, known for its professionalism, international projects, and ability to turn every concert into a distinctive musical experience. This evening, the tradition of American jazz will meet European elegance, the freedom of improvisation the grandeur of the orchestral sound. This is a concert where past and present meet, bringing together the legacy of legends and new creative energy. Join us for an evening in which music does more than sound: it tells stories, connects eras, and reminds us why jazz remains one of the world’s most vibrant musical languages. The concert is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
