Play “General Rehearsal”

This year, the Kazio Binkis Theatre of Kaunas Cultural Centre is celebrating its 90th anniversary! The theatre’s history began in 1936 and continues to this day. Over the decades, it has nurtured creators, staged audience favourites and upheld the traditions of amateur theatre. To mark the anniversary, audiences are invited to three plays: “Spooky Events at the Pabališkiai Tavern,” “General Rehearsal” and “Randor Kvit, or Who Is Cleverer?” Join us to celebrate 90 years of creative history!

Kazio Binkis’s grotesque drama “General Rehearsal” was written against the backdrop of events that shook the world, when all around was still “…cozy, bright and pleasant, with only occasional rumblings of the approaching storm…”. Soon, peaceful everyday life seems like an unattainable beacon of happiness, while human values lose their meaning in the face of incomprehensible ambitions that demand the most precious thing of all—a human life. Today, we too experience a similar state of mind. We are ordinary people, with no influence over the decisions of the “powerful.” What happiness and meaning in life can the “little person” find in a world where values have become confused? There is no definitive answer—we only know that we live once…
