The now-iconic play “The Full Monty” tells the story of six men in a small Lithuanian town struggling with unemployment. Tired of sitting around day after day with nothing to show for it, one of the friends comes up with an idea for finding something to do and earning money: the friends decide to become striptease dancers… Unsurprisingly, starting their “new career” not only takes tremendous willpower, but also puts their long-standing friendship at risk. Based on the play “Ladies Night” by playwrights Stephen Sinclair and Anthony McCarten, this production was first performed in New Zealand in 1987 and became the most profitable play in world theatre history. The play was translated into twelve languages, and in 1990 and 1994 the production became England’s most popular tourism product. The English film “The Full Monty,” which began screening in 1997, was also a huge success and entered the list of the world’s best-selling films in 2006.
