Comedy “The Henpecked Husband”

On top of all her marital disappointments, Ana, a charming geography teacher, also had to endure public humiliation: her Ivo, who had worked hard for peanuts all his life, was sensationally sent to prison for robbing a bank! And just as Ana puts her shattered life back together, finding peace in the arms of her second husband, Marko, a wonderful school principal, a legal error comes to light: Ivo returns home without delay—to his former wife and her new husband… The confusion in this home and in people’s hearts seems impossible to resolve, especially when Ivo finds a new love interest, the charming doctor Marija. Is it possible to forgive betrayal and regain lost trust? Is it possible to put disappointment behind you and keep only the brighter feelings? Is it possible to turn a blind eye to the passion for a third person burning in your beloved’s eyes? No, not everything is possible. But who, if not the women—Ana and Marija—will find a solution? The works of this Croatian playwright and writer have been translated into 35 languages, and productions based on M. Gavran’s plays have been staged by more than 200 theatres around the world. A film titled “How to Steal a Wife” was made in Lithuania, adapted from M. Gavran’s play “The Henpecked Husband.”
