In her autobiographically inspired novel “Mother,” Danish writer Karina Mikaelis paints a portrait of her mother with love and gentle humour. The play brings to life several episodes from the novel, revealing a full spectrum of family feelings. Like the novel’s author, the creators of this play speak about complicated, contradictory, unspoken and concealed feelings, as well as the deeply warm and compassionate bonds between those closest to one another—a mother and her children. Do mothers really know their children best? How can children live with the shadows of their parents’ past? How can we love those close to us without hurting them with that love?
Premiere: 20 and 21 September 2024.
