Die Fledermaus

Die Fledermaus
Two-act operetta
Premiere: 5 March 2027

The operetta “Die Fledermaus” has an impressive production history on the stage of Kaunas State Musical Theatre: in 1950, directed by S. Čaikauskas, conducted by S. Graužinis; in 1962, directed by R. Andrejevas, conducted by J. Indra; in 1973, directed by A. Ragauskaitė, conducted by S. Domarkas; and in 1993, directed by Gintas Žilys, conducted by Julius Geniušas, with set design by Janina Malinauskaitė.

Other operettas by J. Strauss have also been successful in Kaunas: “The Gypsy Baron” (1950, 1976, 2012), “A Night in Venice” (1965, 2001), “A Viennese Blood” (1968, revived in 2010), and “The Merry War” (1979). This “Die Fledermaus” is the fifth. Why? Of course, because of its wonderful music and timeless, ever-relevant plot. The roles in the production will be performed by the theatre’s soloists, with artists from the theatre’s ballet and chorus, and the orchestra.
