Die Fledermaus — an operetta in two acts. Premiere: 5 March 2027.
The operetta Die Fledermaus has an impressive production history on the stage of Kaunas State Musical Theatre: in 1950, directed by S. Čaikauskas, conducted by S. Graužinis; in 1962, directed by R. Andrejevas, conducted by J. Indra; in 1973, directed by A. Ragauskaitė, conducted by S. Domarkas; and in 1993, directed by Gintas Žilys, conducted by Julius Geniušas, with set design by Janina Malinauskaitė.
Other operettas by J. Strauss have also been successful in Kaunas: The Gypsy Baron (1950, 1976, 2012), A Night in Venice (1965, 2001), A Viennese Blood (1968, revived in 2010), and The Merry War (1979). This Die Fledermaus will be the fifth. Why? Of course, because of its wonderful music and timeless, ever-relevant plot. The roles in the production will be performed by the theatre’s soloists, with artists from the theatre’s ballet and chorus, and the orchestra.
