Die Fledermaus
Operetta in 2 acts
Premiere: 5 March 2027
The operetta Die Fledermaus has an impressive production history on the stage of Kaunas State Musical Theatre: in 1950, directed by S. Čaikauskas, conducted by S. Graužinis; in 1962, directed by R. Andrejevas, conducted by J. Indra; in 1973, directed by A. Ragauskaitė, conducted by S. Domarkas; and in 1993, directed by Gintas Žilys, conducted by Julius Geniušas, with Janina Malinauskaitė as set designer. Other operettas by J. Strauss have also been successful in Kaunas: The Gypsy Baron (1950, 1976, 2012), A Night in Venice (1965, 2001), Vienna Blood (1968, revived in 2010), and The Merry War (1979).
This is the fifth production of Die Fledermaus. Why? Of course, because of its excellent music and its timeless, ever-relevant plot. The production will feature roles performed by the theatre’s soloists, with artists from its ballet and choir, and the orchestra.
