Die Fledermaus
Two-act operetta
Premiere: 5 March 2027
The operetta Die Fledermaus has an impressive production history on the stage of Kaunas State Musical Theatre: in 1950, directed by S. Čaikauskas, conducted by S. Graužinis; in 1962, directed by R. Andrejevas, conducted by J. Indra; in 1973, directed by A. Ragauskaitė, conducted by S. Domarkas; and in 1993, directed by Gintas Žilys, conducted by Julius Geniušas, with set design by Janina Malinauskaitė.
Other operettas by J. Strauss have also been successful in Kaunas: The Gypsy Baron (1950, 1976, 2012), A Night in Venice (1965, 2001), Vienna Blood (1968, revived in 2010), and The Merry War (1979).
This is the fifth production of Die Fledermaus. Why? Of course, because of its wonderful music and timeless, ever-relevant plot. The theatre’s soloists will perform the roles, joined by the theatre’s ballet and chorus artists and orchestra.
