“Jekyll and Hyde” is one of the best-known musicals, based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s gothic novella “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”. Its widely known plot, about the struggle between the forces of good and evil within a person, is presented through musical theatre. In R. L. Stevenson’s novella, the talented doctor Henry Jekyll decides to experiment on himself and prove to the world that the good and bad sides of a person can be artificially separated. During the experiment, the protagonist’s consciousness splits, and Mr Hyde—a cruel murderer who commits horrific crimes—emerges in the same body alongside the kind and talented doctor. The story depicts a modern society in which lies, violence and hypocrisy have become the norm. In this context, Mr Hyde’s crimes—his first victims are members of high society wallowing in sin—are a kind of “sanitary measure” against a rotten society. However, Dr Jekyll’s experiment fails: dreaming of changing the world, the protagonist realises that evil cannot be defeated by such means, and dies himself. Not recommended for children under 14. The theatre’s performers and invited soloists, as well as the theatre choir and ballet artists, take part.
