“Jekyll and Hyde” is one of the best-known musicals, based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s Gothic novella *The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde*. It uses the tools of musical drama to present the widely popular story of the struggle between the forces of good and evil within a person.

In R. L. Stevenson’s novella, the talented doctor Henry Jekyll decides to experiment on himself and prove to the world that the good and bad sides of a person can be artificially separated. During the experiment, the hero’s consciousness splits, and Mr Hyde—a brutal murderer who commits horrific crimes—emerges alongside the pleasant and talented doctor in the same body.

The story depicts modern society, where lies, violence and hypocrisy have become the norm. In this context, Mr Hyde’s crimes—his first victims are members of high society mired in sin—serve as a kind of “sanitation” of a rotten society. Yet Dr Jekyll’s experiment fails: dreaming of changing the world, the hero realizes that evil cannot be defeated by such means, and dies himself.

Not recommended for audiences under 14. The theatre’s performers and invited soloists, as well as the theatre choir and ballet artists, take part.
