The performance has been rescheduled to March 2, 2027.
The play unfolds between a man and a woman in Palanga, Lithuania’s resort capital, with plot twists that surprise and provoke nonstop laughter. The man’s fantasies, lies and sweet talk spill from his lips; as it later turns out, he is a womanizer who keeps changing his name and even forgets his lovers. He has one goal: to get a different woman into bed each time. At the same time, the story explores fundamental values—love, close connection, respect and openness—with everything presented through emotion and laughter.
To convey these feelings, director D. Kazlauskas and his team chose a truly original form, and the varied situations are engaging and highly playful. Watching the play, you may sometimes identify with the actors and find yourself recalling similar situations and experiences from your own youth, which makes the performance all the more vivid. The audience is also drawn into comic situations throughout the show: there is interaction with the audience, and the whole hall sings popular Lithuanian schlager songs from the period along with the actors.
“I haven’t seen such an engaging and cheerful performance in a long time. There was plenty of intrigue and laughter, and the situations made you think and get immersed in the plot. The popular Lithuanian variety songs performed in the play brought it to life, too,” said Vladas, grandson of legendary Lithuanian basketball coach Vladas Garastas, sharing his first impressions after seeing the performance in Palanga.
“People from Palanga were the first to see our play. A premiere is always like an exam: did the idea work? I think we passed. Our whole team—Lina Rastokaitė, Renata Kutinaitė, Andrius Povilauskas and I—wrote and created this work, and I think our idea worked. The audience proved it at the premiere: from what we saw, they had a great time, and so did we,” D. Kazlauskas said just after the premiere.
He said Palanga was chosen for the play for a reason. In short, this is a “Resort Romance” that could have happened 30–50 years ago, and could happen today. The desire to return to the time of our parents, our youth and childhood, through those songs, is wonderful. It was great that so many people at the premiere had listened to these songs when they were young. You saw for yourselves that everyone sang them with us. People simply became part of the play’s story and part of the performance,” D. Kazlauskas said happily.
Actress L. Rastokaitė agreed: “A fantastic audience. I’ve never seen such a fantastic audience in Palanga; from the very beginning of the play, they responded, and the whole hall was singing.”
D. Kazlauskas, who returned to the theatre stage just last year after a 12-year break, said that connection with people and seeing how they respond in the moment is wonderful. “You can see how heated I am and how red I am after the performance. Theatre is very alive and emotional. Having a partner beside you is something special. The premiere of this play was a day of trials for us, and I think the play will get even better with time. We need a little time to settle down and direct our energy where it’s needed, and each performance will be more enjoyable for the audience. Residents of Vilnius, Kaunas and other cities can get ready for our performances—we’ll come to you, too,” said D. Kazlauskas, director of “Resort Romance.”
