Feel Christmas! A Musical Journey Around the World with St. Nicholas

Did you know that Christmas sounds different in every country around the world? In some places, it softly rustles on a winter evening; elsewhere, it rings out in magnificent hymns, while in others the whole family gathers to celebrate. But everywhere, Christmas speaks of the same things: kindness, friendship, sharing and being together.

This December, we invite children, their teachers and childcare staff on a special musical journey, “Christmas in the City of St. Nicholas.” Together with the Kaunas Music Ensemble “Ainiai,” soloists Vygantas Bemovas and Justina Tomkutė-Petraitienė, and actor Vytautas Gasiliūnas as our guide, we will set off to discover the sounds of Christmas around the world.

Our guide is St. Nicholas, a symbol of generosity, kindness and care for others, and the forerunner of Santa Claus. He will help children discover not only Christmas traditions from different countries, but also what unites all people.

Some of the best-loved and most familiar Christmas carols will be performed, including “O Holy Night,” “The First Noel,” “Joy to the World,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “O Christmas Tree,” and other festive melodies. Most importantly, children will not only listen: they will discover, ask questions, observe, recognise and experience the music of Christmas together. All the carols are performed in Lithuanian, so their stories and meaning will be easy for young listeners to understand.

This is more than a concert and more than an educational event. It is a live musical journey bringing together Christmas traditions from around the world, beautiful music, curiosity and festive wonder. Perhaps after this journey you will hear Christmas differently—or perhaps feel it even more deeply.

We invite school and kindergarten groups to set off on this musical Christmas journey!
