Concert description
2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Lithuanian composer Vytautas Klova. In a concert dedicated to this anniversary, bass Tadas Girininkas and pianist Evelina Pilipavičiūtė invite audiences to hear anew one of the most fascinating works in the composer’s chamber vocal repertoire: the cycle “Wedding Songs.”

Composed in 1971, the cycle consists of twenty songs for bass and piano based on Lithuanian folk-song motifs. It is a kind of musical wedding story, in which moods, characters and emotions shift—from youthful joy, playfulness and the bustle of celebration to farewells, longing and intimate lyrical moments. Here, folk melody blends with professional compositional language, while voice and piano become equal participants in the story.

The programme also includes Vytautas Klova’s Piano Piece in A minor and six songs from the vocal cycle “Haymaking Songs.” The concert invites audiences to encounter Klova’s music not as a historical legacy, but as a living, colourful part of Lithuanian musical culture that remains moving today.
