The legendary Sakartvelo National Ballet “Sukhishvili” has embodied artistry, strength of spirit and inexhaustible energy for more than 80 years. The first and original Sakartvelo national dance ensemble—“The First and The Original”—has become a symbol of authentic Sakartvelo culture, unrivalled anywhere in the world. In 1945, Iliko and Nino Suchišvili founded the Sakartvelo National Ballet “Suchišvili”. Today, the ensemble is led by the founders’ grandchildren, the third generation of the family. The dynasty has preserved and nurtured its traditions, making “Suchišvili” a source of pride in Sakartvelo’s artistic and cultural heritage. Audiences in the USA, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia and other countries can look forward to a unique programme. It features the ensemble’s best performances from throughout its history—a true embodiment of perfection and the highest level of artistry, and a calling card for Sakartvelo on the world stage. For eight decades, the Sakartvelo National Ballet “Suchišvili” has won the hearts of millions of spectators, performing on the world’s most prestigious stages, from the Metropolitan Opera in New York to La Scala in Milan. The world has described it in many ways: “the eighth wonder of the world” (The New York Times), “a hurricane on stage” (Daily Telegraph), and “energy that can get an entire audience to its feet” (Le Figaro). But all these descriptions share one point: “Suchišvili” is a phenomenon without equal in the world. A true whirlwind of energy and beauty. The concert programme is an explosion of emotion. The men’s virtuoso dances, with acrobatics, leaps and spectacular sword-spinning, leave audiences gasping in admiration, while the women’s dances enchant with grace and grandeur. One of the ensemble’s most striking signatures remains the unique men’s dance on pointe—a distinctive feature of “Suchišvili” that other performers simply cannot replicate. Alongside this spectacular whirlwind of dance, audiences can also expect visual splendour: costumes made from natural fabrics and adorned with silk embroidery and glittering stones
