“The smell of food Mum is cooking. A sister’s endless chatter. The smell of clean laundry. Grandpa’s radio playing loudly. Grandma’s stories as she turns the pages of the family photo album. A hairbrush used as a microphone for a living-room concert. Mum’s lipstick and necklaces…” These are just a few of the memories contained in the word HOME. We all feel and understand home differently, but we all know that HOME is much more than just a place to live. But what happens to those for whom home does not bring these feelings? What happens to those who spend their whole lives unable to find a home—not a physical one, but an inner home, which can sometimes take a lifetime to build?
The play tells the story of three teenagers growing up in a children’s home. They are about to come of age and will have to move out and live independently. To everyone’s surprise, however, a social worker announces that a newcomer will be moving in with them. Everyday scenes at the children’s home intertwine with the lives of people who have already left care. The play is based on true stories gathered by playwright Karolina Urbonė while working at a children’s care home. It is a play about the gift of unconditional love and the endless journey towards finding HOME.
