Šeiko Dance Theatre: Creative Learning Sessions for Children Aged 6 Months to 3 Years and Their Parents

What happens during the sessions? At each session, a short story is told and acted out through movement, a dance is performed, participants make music using various objects, and they learn tongue twisters. The activities develop children’s sense of rhythm and musicality, dramatic expression, movement-and-sound synchronisation, coordination, articulation, vocabulary, attentiveness and concentration. Attention is also given to how children interact with one another and with the other members of the group. During the classes, we will also share a collection of activities drawn from folk tradition. We will explore the term “žaidinimai” (traditional games and playful activities with young children) more closely and practically, and learn how to build a special bond with a child through stories, movement, sound, rhythm and touch.

The sessions are led by choreographer, dancer and movement therapy practitioner Dovilė Binkauskaitė. The programme is based on the methods of dance and theatre professionals who work with infants and children: Dalija Acin Thelander (Stockholm University), Ieva Jackevičiūtė and D. Binkauskaitė.

Session length: 60 minutes. Price: 1 adult + 1 child – €10. Venue: “Kultūros fabrikas”, 5th floor (lift available), Palėpės Hall C, Bangų g. 5A, Klaipėda.
