On 7 October, ÜKSIKVISA, a new production written by Ott Aardam, directed by Maria Peterson and performed by Priit Pius and Laura Peterson Aardam, premieres. ÜKSIKVISA is a co-creation production by POINT Productions, inspired by real-life events. It seeks answers to the questions: What happens to someone who has built their whole life around a functioning system when, one day, that system begins to crumble?
After his marriage falls apart, Marko raises two sons on his own. He is a former soldier, a devoted father and the creator of the popular video blog ÜKSIKVISA, where he shows thousands of followers how to manage even the most difficult situations with his children as a father. His world is built on order, responsibility and one firm promise: he will not disappear from his children’s lives.
One day, journalist Liz arrives at Marko’s home to write a story about a man who rebuilt his life after divorce. But before meeting Marko, Liz has also spoken to his ex-wife, Mirjam—and heard a very different version of the same marriage. The interview quickly becomes something more than a newspaper article.
Where does caring end and control begin? Does love give us the right to protect another person even when they do not want that protection? Does a family remain a family after the relationship between the couple has ended? What do women and men need in a relationship? And why can one person’s sense of security feel like a prison to another?
“ÜKSIKVISA” is a story of relationships, divorce and parenthood, marked by sharp humour and psychological tension, in a world where private life is increasingly becoming a public story. We show others our happiness, principles, children and truths—but what remains outside the frame? How much of what we tell about ourselves is really true?
It is a meeting between two people, each with their own truth and wounds, and each convinced they know how the world works. In an increasingly polarised world, can a man and a woman still truly listen to one another? Can we give freedom to the person we love? And perhaps the most important question: after the narrative breaks down, can we forgive ourselves too?
