Theatre Performance PEEGEL

“PEEGEL” — the Estonian premiere of a production by Savva Saveljev! 25 March 2027 at 19:00 at Kohtla-Järve Kultuurikeskus.

In March 2027, Estonian audiences will see Savva Saveljev’s production “Peegel” for the first time. This psychological drama also features subtle irony and sharp satire. The production is based on “The Silence of Dr. Murke” by Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Heinrich Böll and Kurt Vonnegut’s famous novel “Slaughterhouse-Five, or The Children’s Crusade”. The leading roles are played by Pavel Tabakov and Savva Saveljev.

Munich. 1965. Twenty years after the end of the Second World War. A distinguished scholar and a young rebel meet in the apartment of an art history professor. What begins as an ordinary conversation unexpectedly turns into an intellectual duel. Two generations, two opposing worldviews, and one secret from the past. Who has the right to judge the other? Can one’s actions be justified by the circumstances of the time? And is it possible to escape the past when it still lives on within us? As the conversation unfolds, the characters’ roles change, and the line between accuser and accused becomes increasingly blurred. Which of them will ultimately be the judge, and which the defendant? And what does each see in their own reflection?

At the heart of the production is the brilliant acting duo of Pavel Tabakov and Savva Saveljev. An hour and a half of absorbing intellectual confrontation, where serious questions intertwine with subtle irony, sharp satire, and unexpected plot twists.

“Peegel” is a story about the clash of generations, moral choices, and responsibility for the past. There are no unequivocally right or guilty parties here, and no ready-made answers are offered. The production invites viewers to look at familiar beliefs from a new perspective. Because sometimes the hardest thing is not to look your opponent in the eye, but to face yourself.
