Single Dad

“ÜKSIKVISA” is a story about relationships, divorce and parenthood, told with sharp humour and psychological tension in a world where private life is increasingly becoming a public story. We show others our happiness, principles, children and truths—but what stays out of frame? How much of what we say about ourselves is actually true? This is a meeting between two people, each with their own truth and wounds, and each convinced they know how the world works. What happens to someone who has built their whole life around a system that works when, one day, that system begins to crumble? Where does caring end and control begin? Does love give us the right to protect another person even when they do not want that protection? Does a family remain a family after the relationship ends? What do women and men need in a relationship? And why can one person’s sense of security feel like a prison to another?

After his marriage falls apart, Marko raises his two sons alone. A former soldier, devoted father and creator of the popular video blog ÜKSIKVISA, he shows thousands of followers how to manage even the most difficult situations with his children. His world is built on order, responsibility and one firm promise: he will not disappear from his children’s lives.

One day, journalist Liz arrives at Marko’s home to write about a man who rebuilt his life after divorce. But before meeting Marko, Liz has also spoken with his ex-wife, Mirjam—and heard a very different version of the same marriage. The interview quickly becomes something more than a newspaper article. In an increasingly polarised world, can a man and a woman still truly listen to each other? Can we give freedom to the people we love? And perhaps the most important question: after a narrative has broken down, can we forgive ourselves?
