Stones in Your Pockets / Kuressaare Theatre

Film shoots bring Hollywood stars and other important figures to a small Irish village, where they remain behind the camera. Fascinated by the glamour of the film industry and the daily pay, local people get the chance to take part in the film as extras. The main characters are two such men—Charlie and Jake. In addition to the daily pay they depend on, both men dream of making it in Hollywood. Charlie hopes his screenplay will be made into a film, while Jake wants to pursue an acting career. The glamour of the film industry’s big league captivates other villagers too. This powerful attraction does not end happily for everyone. As in a compelling film, plenty happens on set—some of it funny, some dramatic. Just two actors bring to the stage the thoughts, feelings and wishes of the whole cast of characters involved in the shoot. Marie Jones’s tragicomedy became an instant stage hit when it first opened in 1996. In 1999, “Stones in Your Pockets” won the Irish Times/ESB Irish Theatre Award for Best Production. Its success continued in 2001 with two Olivier Awards and three Tony Award nominations. Starring: Markus Habakukk and Tanel Jonas.
