In this film based on a story by Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Olga Tokarchuk, Oscar-nominated Lesley Manville plays Professor Joan Andrews, who witnesses the murder of a student by the secret police in Cold War-era Warsaw in 1981. A curfew and the declaration of martial law follow. Amid these events, the professor, who comes from the safe Western world, must evade her pursuers and find a way to deliver evidence of the crime to the British Embassy.

The film is directed by Polish filmmaker Kasia Adamik, who also directed, together with her mother Agnieszka Holland, “Spoor”, screened at the PÖFF festival and based on Tokarchuk’s bestselling novel “Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead”.
