The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

Little Abilene cherishes her porcelain rabbit, Edward. She dresses him in beautiful clothes, talks to him as if he were real, and is always telling him how much she loves him. Edward, for his part, though capable of thought, is firmly convinced that he loves no one. Then one day, as the family sets off on a sea voyage, Edward falls into the ocean… “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” is the fantastical journey of a porcelain rabbit, Edward, filled with difficult and meaningful trials. Along the way, he begins to ponder love, loneliness, longing and friendship, and eventually understands that his heart was made to love. In the year of its publication (2006), the book by American writer Kate DiCamillo was recognised by parents in the United States as the best children’s book and was included in School Library Journal’s list of the 100 best books for children. Director Kotryna Siaurusaitytė says that, using playful methods and boundless imagination, the production will offer children another wonderful way to explore the world: theatre. “As I read, I felt as if I were really travelling alongside the main character, meeting all kinds of very charming characters and experiencing both the most beautiful and the saddest emotions… This story has a sense of air and mystery—that is what fascinates and draws you in most, and lets you understand and interpret it in your own way, based on your individual experience,” says K. Siaurusaitytė. “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” will teach children to expand the boundaries of their imagination, create and think more boldly, openly and differently, drawing young audience members into a beautiful and moving journey towards opening their hearts. The project is funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
