Little Abilene treasures her porcelain rabbit, Edward. She dresses him in beautiful clothes, talks to him as if he were real, and is always telling him how much she loves him. Edward, for his part, though capable of thought, is firmly convinced that he loves no one. Then one day, as the family sets off on a sea voyage, Edward falls into the ocean…

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is a fantastic journey for the porcelain rabbit Edward, full of difficult and meaningful trials. Along the way, he begins to consider what love, loneliness, longing and friendship are, and eventually understands that his heart was made to love.

In the year of its publication (2006), the book by American writer Kate DiCamillo was recognised by American parents as one of the best books for children and was included in School Library Journal’s list of the 100 best children’s books.

Director Kotryna Siaurusaitytė says that, through playful methods and boundless imagination, the production will offer children another wonderful way to discover the world: theatre. “As I read, it felt as if I were really travelling with the main character, meeting all sorts of very charming characters and experiencing both the most beautiful and the saddest emotions… This story has air and mystery—that is what fascinates and draws you in most, and lets you understand and interpret it in your own way, drawing on your individual experience,” says K. Siaurusaitytė.

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane will teach children to expand the boundaries of their imagination, create and think more boldly, openly and differently, and draw young audience members into a beautiful, moving journey towards opening their hearts.
