Another Joker | Festival “New Cover (4)”

The story of “Another Joker”: A man who worked for fifteen years as a clown on a popular children’s TV show is told that the show is ending and his contract will not be renewed. In other words, after fifteen years of fame and constant airtime, he has to wipe off his character’s makeup and begin a new chapter of his life. Unemployed—or, as he prefers to be called, a freelancer—he tries to keep going, though his attempts are chaotic and full of fear and confusion. We watch as the cheerful clown Malounas begins to turn into the aggressive Joker, gun in hand, ready to destroy Malounas’s life once and for all, along with everything around him. A ruthless circus of weapons and intoxicants begins. The Joker kicks off a tragicomic party where the main character’s—and your—deepest, darkest fantasies, hidden flaws, feelings, grievances, experiences, fears and shame will be laid bare. There will be good music, good—sometimes dark—humour, illogical dancing, debauchery, fights, a circus of emotions and, of course, all kinds of magical intoxicants. After this party, not only the clown but you too will feel an existential hangover, leading either to enlightenment or to pitch darkness, from which only the Joker himself can lead you out.

Director, playwright and Joker Šarūnas Banevičius is a professional actor who is increasingly taking on directing comedies. He therefore sometimes introduces himself as an amateur playwright and director.
