Do we have the right to change a loved one’s decision if they choose death? This contemporary play by Canadian playwright Martin Bellemare tells of an orderly, ecological, structured society that grants and legalises its citizens’ right to decide when and how they wish to end their lives. The play takes place within a family whose members are tolerant of one another, respect one another’s choices, and do not restrict one another’s freedom. In this case, the family unit reflects society.
M. Bellemare’s plays are publicly staged in France, Canada and Germany. His body of work comprises around ten plays. Freedom is his best-known work; it was first presented to Lithuanian theatre audiences and international experts during the Sirenos International Theatre Festival in 2021.
