Elgar’s Enigma Variations

British conductor Adam Hickox makes his debut with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in a program that opens with Samuel Barber’s concert overture The School of Scandal, a veritable firework display of wit and intricate twists. Sofija Gubajdulina’s dreamlike Fairytale Poem follows, a piece in which the outlines of a fairy tale emerge in subtle colors. The evening reaches its climax with Edward Elgar’s beloved Enigma Variations, where friendship and mystery intertwine in one of the most iconic works in the orchestral repertoire.
