Discover Ravel’s Boléro

Welcome to a musical discovery programme leading up to one of classical music’s most famous rhythms. Chief Conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra begin with Silvestre Revueltas’s pulsing Sensemayá—seven minutes of intense magic and rhythmic heat. Then Klassiska artisten i P2 Ami-Louise Johnsson and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra’s Fanny Robilliard take the stage in Kurt Atterberg’s suite for violin, viola and orchestra: three movements combining lyricism, playful spirit and dreamlike sounds. Johannes Brahms deepens the listening experience with his variations on a theme by Haydn, transforming the same melody into ever-new colours and temperaments. And finally: Ravel’s Boléro—the slowly building crescendo machine in which a simple rhythm becomes a whole orchestral storm.
