The disguises and trials of love take centre stage as Principal Guest Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev leads the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in a programme where dance drives the story forward. Eighty-year-old John Adams opens with The Chairman Dances, a buoyant, propulsive scene in constant motion. Alina Ibragimova then performs Igor Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto, where precision and elegance meet unexpected turns. After the interval, the evening continues in the world of French Baroque: Jean-Baptiste Lully’s music for Le Bourgeois gentilhomme (The Bourgeois Gentleman) and a suite from Jean-Philippe Rameau’s Les Indes galantes (The Amorous Indies), full of colour and seductive splendour.
