Paintings by Piia Ansko are on display on the second floor of the main building of Tartu City Library. Piia Ansko (born 1940) is a pharmacist from Läänemaa who spends her retirement in Nõo. She has been drawing and painting since childhood. Piia inherited her artistic talent from her father, and it was nurtured by the drawing teacher at Tootsi School, who took the children in the art club outdoors to paint and taught them, among other things, how depictions of the summer and winter sky differ. Above all, Piia enjoys painting nature, as its colours and forms are always different in different seasons and lighting conditions. She likes experimenting with and combining different painting techniques and materials, including watercolours, pastel chalks and ink. In addition to painting, Piia greatly enjoys reading, swimming, walking and socialising. Since childhood, she has also been continuously involved in choir singing and has taken part in many song festivals—once even with two choirs at the same time. When she was a little younger, she was very sporty: she actively participated in athletics, cycled and skied. During university, she took part in academic rowing for five years. Read more
