The story of the Metsola family, beloved by Finns, comes to life on the stage of Kuopio City Theatre! Metsolat – Urjanlinna takes audiences on a nostalgic journey to 1980s Kainuu, to the fictional village of Hoikka, where both the Leppävaara farm and the Metsola family face major changes. The Metsola family’s land is divided among the children as part of the inheritance settlement. The family’s youngest son, Erkki Metsola, decides to establish the Urjanlinna ski resort in his home village. When Hoikka’s residents realise the scale of the plan, there is no shortage of jealous opponents. Kari Kaukovaara, from the neighbouring farm, is particularly determined to obstruct the project by any means. The story, set in the late 1980s, deals with themes that still resonate in Finland today. Warmly, vividly and with a twinkle in its eye, the play delves into family ties, tensions between generations and changes in rural life. Miisa Lindén, a screenwriter from the original TV series team, has masterfully adapted the first season of Metsolat for the stage. The entire beloved cast of characters, whom Finns lived and breathed alongside in the 1990s, comes to life on stage. This engrossing drama holds your attention to the very end, even if you never watched the TV series. Metsolat is a drama series produced by Yleisradio from 1993 to 1995, with each episode attracting more than a million viewers.
