The story of the Metsola family, beloved by Finns, comes to life on the stage of Kuopio City Theatre! Metsolat – Urjanlinna takes audiences on a nostalgic journey to 1980s Kainuu, to the fictional village of Hoikka, where both the Leppävaara farm and the Metsola family face major changes. In the division of the inheritance, the Metsola family’s land is divided among the children. The family’s youngest son, Erkki Metsola, decides to establish the Urjanlinna ski resort in his home village. When the scale of the plan becomes clear to the people of Hoikka, there is no shortage of envious opponents. Kari Kaukovaara, from the neighbouring farm, in particular sets out to obstruct the project by every means. The story, set in the late 1980s, explores themes that still resonate in Finland today. The play delves into family ties, tensions between generations and changes in rural life with warmth, a down-to-earth touch and a twinkle in its eye. Miisa Lindén, a screenwriter from the original TV series team, has skilfully adapted the first season of Metsolat for the stage. The entire gallery of beloved characters, whom Finns lived and breathed alongside in the 1990s, comes to life on stage. This gripping drama holds your attention to the end, even if you never watched the TV series. Metsolat is a drama series produced by Yleisradio from 1993 to 1995, with each episode attracting more than one million viewers.
