A Glimmer of Light on a November Evening — Concert

At this concert in the Kuopion Conservatory’s Tempo series, A Glimmer of Light on a November Evening, Marja-Liisa Koponen (soprano and viola), Silja Kallio (harp) and Juan Pablo Muñoz Bulla (piano) perform. The libretto of the opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Venice, 1830) by Italian composer Vincenzo Bellini (1801–1835) is based on the story of Romeo and Juliet. The soprano recitative and aria “Eccomi in lieta vesta” performed at the concert will be accompanied by harp. Song of Yesteryear is a wistfully nostalgic miniature for solo harp. It is part of Dreams and Echoes – 12 songs for harp, a collection of works composed by Pessi Levanto. The concert concludes with the Viola Sonata (1975) by Dimitri Šostakovitš (1906–1975), his final composition, which has dark tones and a sense of farewell, with quotations from Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. The work is well suited to a dark November evening. The concert lasts approximately one hour. Free admission; welcome! Chamber Music Hall, Kuopion Musiikkikeskus, Kuopionlahdenkatu 23 C, 2nd floor.
