The Solo Series – An Evening of Three Solos

An evening of three international contemporary dance solos invites you to be captivated by unique works that together form an atmosphere-rich whole. The Solo Series is an international platform for contemporary dance solo performances, created and curated by Samuli Emery, a multifaceted figure in the dance field. Carefully selected artists, invited to participate, and their unique solo performances tour some of Finland’s best-known contemporary dance stages in Kuopio, Jyväskylä and Tampere.

The 2026 programme brings together three distinct solos in an atmosphere-rich evening. The works explore, among other things, fantasy characters and archetypes, reimagining them through dance. The evening includes the Finnish premiere of Lithuanian artist Lukas Karvelis’s work “She Dreamt of Being Washed Away To The Coast”, performed by Dominyka Markeviciute. Also featured is Tuure Kauku’s new solo performance “ill-wisher, well-wisher,”, created especially for the Solo Series tour, as well as Samuli Emery’s “Concert of Odes”, presented in three parts during the evening.

After each performance, there will be an artist discussion in English, offering an opportunity to learn more about the visiting artists, the worlds of their works and their inspirations. The aims of The Solo Series platform are to make high-quality dance art available across Finland, enable international performance visits and encounters, and create a lightweight, sustainable touring model in Finland.

The Solo Series performance evenings have been held more than ten times since 2020, with several different line-ups. Through the platform, numerous dance artists from as far afield as Japan, Brazil, Greece and Poland have been brought to cities across Finland. The Solo Series’s partners and co-producers are Itä-Suomen tanssin aluekeskus, Keski-Suomen Tanssin Keskus and Tanssiteatteri MD. Samuli Emery is responsible for the curation and production.
