The opening of the Forest’s Memory photography exhibition will take place on Monday, 9 November, from 5:30 p.m. in the lobby of Kuopio Main Library. Kuopio-based artist Neiti Nokkonen will perform at the opening. Welcome!
The Forest’s Memory photography exhibition, on view from 9 to 14 November, tells of the layers of nature and trees, the passage of time, and the growth of the forest. Pieni Neulamäki in Kuopio has a unique history, forest floors layered by time, and conditions favourable to countless species in its undulating terrain. What story does the forest tell us, and what kinds of memories does it leave with us?
The exhibition consists of works from the Forest’s Memory photography competition, as well as other images taken in the forest of Pieni Neulamäki or documenting nature conservation work in Kuopio. The competition was won by Senni Paavola’s work *Thoughts*, 2026. The second-highest-rated image, *The Whole World on a Stump*, 2026, was taken by Paula Sakki, and the image receiving the third-highest score from the jury was *Old and New*, 2026, taken by Elina Karhu.
The exhibition brings visibility to the nature of Pieni Neulamäki and the different ways of defending it. It is also, in itself, one way to promote the cause of local nature in Kuopio. The photography competition and exhibition have been organised in collaboration with the local association of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation, Kuopion Luonnon Ystäväin Yhdistys (KLYY), and Kuopio Camera Club. The competition and exhibition are sponsored by Partioaitta and Tunnin kuva.
