Step into Hjo’s bathing culture of more than a hundred years ago. Discover the bathing culture and health-promoting way of life in Hjo over a century ago. Accompanied by photographs and an advertising leaflet from 1899, we gain an insight into Hjo’s pride for more than 50 years: Hjo Vattenkuranstalt.

About Hjo Vattenkuranstalt
Hjo Vattenkuranstalt opened in 1878. A large bathing park was laid out, and in the following years several villas were built with guest rooms for visitors to the health resort. Among other things, guests were prescribed natural and artificial health waters, mud baths, tar baths and electrical treatments. But a visit to the health resort was not all privation. Guests went on excursions or relaxed in the Societetssalongen. If they were not strolling in the bathing park, perhaps they played lawn tennis with a few willing opponents. At the Bellevue bathing restaurant, they enjoyed fine three-course dinners and the view.
