Join us in exploring bathing culture in Hjo more than a hundred years ago, and the health-giving way of life it offered. Guided by photographs and a promotional booklet from 1899, we gain insight into Hjo’s pride for more than 50 years: Hjo Water Cure Establishment.

About Hjo Water Cure Establishment

Hjo Water Cure Establishment opened in 1878. A large bathing park was laid out, and in the following years several villas with guest rooms were built for visitors to the spa resort. Among other things, guests were prescribed natural and artificial mineral waters, mud baths, tar baths and electrical treatments. But a visit to the establishment did not mean nothing but deprivation. Guests took part in excursions or relaxed in the Society Salon. If they were not strolling in the bathing park, they might play lawn tennis with willing opponents. At the Bellevue bathhouse restaurant, they enjoyed fine three-course dinners and the view.
