Step back into Hjo’s bathing culture of more than a hundred years ago. With photographs and an advertising pamphlet from 1899 as our guides, we gain an insight into Hjo’s pride for more than 50 years: Hjo Water-Cure Establishment.

About Hjo Water-Cure Establishment

Hjo Water-Cure Establishment opened in 1878. A large bathing park was laid out, and in the following years several villas with guest rooms were built for visitors to the spa resort. Among other treatments, guests were prescribed natural and artificial medicinal waters, mud baths, tar baths and electrotherapy. But a visit to the establishment did not mean nothing but sacrifice. Guests went on excursions or relaxed in the Society Salon. If they were not strolling in the bathing park, they might play lawn tennis with willing opponents. At the Bellevue bathing restaurant, they ate delicious three-course dinners and enjoyed the view.
