Oh Dorian!

A classic drama about our obsession with our own image. Dorian is an inexperienced, cautious young man. Then his best friend paints a portrait of him, and everything changes. The portrait makes him popular, admired and desired. For the first time, he can have and do everything he dreams of. Egged on by the much older, cynical Harry, Dorian is tempted to exploit his looks and youth without restraint. He is drawn into a world of parties, sins, drugs and crime, where boundaries blur and the consequences always seem to fall on someone else. But something is wrong. Dorian stops ageing. Whatever he does, his appearance remains unchanged, perfect. Meanwhile, the portrait begins to change. The face becomes ugly, distorted, grotesque. What should be visible on Dorian himself seems to gather in the image. What is he really seeing? And what does it cost to live a life in which everything is about being admired and desired?

Oh Dorian! is a free interpretation of Oscar Wilde’s classic The Picture of Dorian Gray, written by Malin Axelsson, award-winning playwright and artistic director of Riksteatern Barn & Unga. Respecting the essence of the original, the performance explores our time’s fixation on youth, status and appearance in a highly visual and bold theatrical form.
