Marks Printmaking Workshop and the Artists’ Collective Workshop in Varberg
Thirty-five artists are taking part in the exhibition, which grew out of a collaboration between Marks Printmaking Workshop (MKV) and the Artists’ Collective Workshop in Varberg, marking MKV’s 50th anniversary in 2026. Through regular meetings in each other’s workshops, the artists have exchanged knowledge, tested ideas and inspired one another, shaping the exhibition’s content and form.
The curators are Theo Ågren and Susanne Westerberg.
Printmaking is currently in a dynamic phase. In recent years, interest in printmaking techniques and craft-based processes has grown, not least as a counter-movement to an increasingly digitalised flow of images. Printmaking has a particular presence—a physical connection between hand, material and impression—in which every step of the process leaves a trace. It involves both control and chance, precision and resistance.
In TRYCKT!, we present a wide range of artistic expressions and techniques: from classic printmaking methods such as etching, screen printing and linocut to more experimental approaches that take printmaking beyond its traditional boundaries. Paper is used, as well as textiles and other materials as carriers of the image. Printing functions both as a method and as an idea—as repetition, variation, displacement and inquiry.
The exhibition does not reflect a single unified style, but rather a diversity of individual practices. What the artists share is their approach to printmaking as a way of thinking and working. Their meeting also gives rise to a collective dimension, highlighting the workshops’ role as places for sharing knowledge, experimentation and community.
TRYCKT! is therefore not only a presentation of contemporary printmaking, but also a portrait of the workshop as a lively and significant place in the art world—where experience is passed on, techniques are developed and new forms of expression take shape.
