Behind the Screen

Tahkon Talviteatteri presents the comedy *Ruudun takaa* during the 2026–2027 season. Performances take place in the Maisemasali at Break Sokos Hotel Tahko from 13 November 2026 to 12 March 2027.

*Ruudun takaa* is a breathtakingly fast-paced, cheerfully irreverent and remarkably timely comedy about Finnish reality TV, everyday life and relationships colliding, resulting in a firework-fast-paced parody of today’s television landscape. Maija and Matti are relaxing on their sofa and trying to spend an ordinary evening at home—but ordinary life quickly disappears when one increasingly absurd reality format after another floods the screen.

The audience is taken through the programming of an entire fictional TV channel: from romantic dating shows to food analytics, from extreme travel to retreats, and all the way to quintessentially Finnish survival stories. Every encounter, every new series and every expert is a delicious caricature of what happens when the logic of entertainment meets the Finnish mentality. The play asks, with gentle yet sharp wit: What happens when television no longer just entertains, but changes everyday life? In the end, the realities of Maija and Matti’s home and the world of television collide with such force that the boundary between performances and life begins to dissolve—recognisably, warmly and utterly absurdly.

The production is by Siilinjärven Teatteri. The play was written by Maija Rissanen and Mikko Laitinen. It is directed by theatre director and Master of Theatre Arts (TeM) Sanna Saarela.
