Guided Tour: Christmas at the Kuopio Museum Quarter

On the Kuopio Museum Quarter’s Christmas tours, visitors explore Christmas celebrations in the past in museum homes representing different periods and social classes. The tour covers the background, traditions and customs of Finnish Christmas. Highlights include Christmas trees and their many decorations, folk beliefs connected with Christmas preparations, and, of course, the rich traditions of Christmas food. Tours are held on Saturdays at 13:00. On St Stephen’s Day, 26 December, tours are at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00. Admission to the museum is required to join the tours (€8/5; free for under-18s; Museum Card and Kaikukortti accepted). Duration: approximately 45 minutes.

Christmas at the Kuopio Museum Quarter

In the Museum Quarter’s traditional Christmas exhibition, you can experience what Christmas used to smell and look like. The museum homes are dressed for Christmas, from the 19th century through the 1930s. At the exhibition, you can meet Father Christmas as he was depicted in the past and listen to radio programmes from the Christmas season.
