Tour: Christmas at the Kuopio Old Kuopio Museum

On the Christmas tours at the Kuopio Old Kuopio Museum, visitors explore Christmas celebrations of the past in museum homes representing different periods and social classes. The tour covers the background to Finnish Christmas, its traditions and customs. Highlights include Christmas trees with their many decorations, folk beliefs associated with Christmas preparations, and, of course, the abundant food traditions of Christmas.

Tours on Saturdays at 13:00. On Boxing Day, 26 December, tours are at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00. Admission to the museum is required (8/5 €, under-18s free; Museum Card and Kaikukortti accepted). Duration: approx. 45 minutes.

Christmas at the Kuopio Old Kuopio Museum, 1 Dec 2026–3 Jan 2027

In the museum’s traditional Christmas exhibition, you can experience what Christmas used to smell and look like. The homes in the museum quarter are dressed for Christmas, from the 19th century through the 1930s. At the exhibition, you can meet Santa Claus as he was in the old days and listen to Christmas-season radio programmes.
